Site Breakdown

Recently some of you have reported slow loading pages on flyingcracker.com. Others told us that they were unable to connect to any page on flyingcracker.com. Since nothing had changed on the site for several months we had no idea what might be causing the problems... until now. On Thursday 10/04/2007 the hard drive containing flyingcracker at our web host failed. Apparently the slowdowns seen over the past few weeks were symptoms of this drive giving up the ghost. These failures are hard to predict - some people saw a problem while others didn't, it just depended on how the hard drive acted at the time. Needless to say we are unhappy about this situation and are taking measures to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Last night and today our web host and I have worked to get flyingcracker back up. Most of the pages should be OK. Now working:

  • current weather
  • all forecasts
  • radar image
  • whetstone webcam
  • games
  • blog stories
  • cocktail and food recipes
  • sun, moon, stars
  • CB News teasers
  • driving conditions
  • airport conditions
  • weather plots
  • driving route maps

River flows are still off-line due to issues with the external data source (USGS). The snow report is inactive because CBMR is no longer providing data. We hope to get that resolved before the start of the ski season.

Lost Members

When the hard drive failed, we lost information for the last 34 people who signed up after July 30th. If you signed up recently and can no longer log in, please sign up again. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Please bear with us as we work to return flyingcracker to its former dangerous self, and work toward bringing you a new and improved flyingcracker.com. Thanks for your patience.
